History of the Fellowship for British Hairdressing
Founded in 1946 as the Fellowship of Hair Artists of Great Britain.
1950’s.
Originally a small and elite association, designed to promote artistic hairdressing with a focus on hairdressing competitions (Winners included a young Vidal Sassoon!).
1960’s.
International recognition and a focus on classic skills training. The Fellowship trained the only ever individual British Ladies World Champion (Colin Lewis) and European Champion, Christofer Mann).
1970’s
Slow, steady growth and a focus on Education and Training.
1980/90’s
A more modern image and role emerge
with a focus on creativity and training of the finest talent in the industry. The rise of the ‘Celebrity Hairdresser’ meant that soon every prestigious name in the industry was also a Fellowship member.
F.A.M.E. Team established to promote
a ‘new generation’ of British hairdressing talent.
The Fellowship PR machine and international links help to establish the organisation – and British hairdressing - with a key
place in the UK and worldwide hairdressing industry
2000’s.
New millennium – new Fellowship.
Current members include a “Who’s
Who” of hairdressing names.
Individuals, salons, manufacturers and associated businesses all support The Fellowship.
Launch of Project X by Fellowship Education.
Huge recognition by trade and consumer hair press.
An ever-expanding membership and events calendar
with the same motto – “Strength Through Quality”
Launch of Fellowship “Gold Star Salons” consumer brand.
